How I Got Here

I’ve told a lot of stories in my career. That’s still what I do, and love the most.

I’ve worked for national media outlets (CNN and SI.com), a major regional newspaper (Atlanta Journal-Constitution), a smaller local paper (Gwinnett Daily News), my college paper (The Red and Black) and one professional sports sanctioning body (NASCAR).

I’ve been a TV field producer and an online content producer and reporter. I took a nine-year detour through public relations. I’ve been a full-time freelancer since 2011 and have written for NCAA.com, espnW and VisitFlorida.com, among others. I wield a mean delete key as a contract editor for the custom publisher that produces International Speedway Corporation’s souvenir event programs.

I’ve written about school-board meetings, state legislators, breaking news and fatal car accidents. I’ve covered football, basketball, baseball and hockey games.

One World Series, one Stanley Cup Final, one NHL All-Star Game, two College World Series, one NCAA Men’s Division I Final Four, two NCAA Men’s Division I Frozen Fours, major college football bowl games, the Peachtree Road Race and the Daytona 500.

I’ve done ride-alongs with police and NASCAR drivers. The latter in a Corvette. At 140 miles per hour.

As a CNN field producer, I chronicled Dr. James Andrews — orthopedist to the stars — as he performed Tommy John surgery on a major-league pitcher. I was an original staffer for SI.com.

I’ve sharpened travel-writing chops. Written white papers. Newsletter content. If you’ve read this far, you know I have unbelievable airline mileage, which means I know how and where to sniff for cool museums and local coffee shops.

Fun things about me: I like turquoise (color and stone). I own over 300 vintage umbrellas. I’m a University of Georgia graduate and I know how to call the Dawgs, but not here. I promise.

I’m also an Atlanta native who lives in Florida.
